The UberMinutes: Episode 006

August 17, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Another UberMinutes is here, and sorry for none last week. Time slipped by, and I totally forgot about it, mainly because I was set on going to the Chiefs game and watching them win! This week’s UberMinutes should be longer since I have had 2 weeks to work on projects, right? Well, it won’t be…

I have been working on the XBLIG Companion iOS port, but still not ready for release. On the same not, most likely will not have much to show for the MBMBaM game around PAX time. This is a bummer, but life has handed me some lemons, and I haven’t perfected the way to make them into grenades. The XBLIG Companion port is on schedule to be released first part of September, if nothing blows up.

That’s about it for this UberMinutes. If you would like to have more updates than just the once a week UberMinutes, follow @ElementCy on twitter. I usually tweet things that I am doing, thoughts on my mind, or just complete nonsense…

Until next time…

It’s a new month and a new UberMinutes is here! Did more work with the iOS port of XBLIG Companion this week. The main guts is just about 75% done, and have started pushing out test builds to TestFlight. I am hoping to have the first release build ready to push to Apple before PAX begins.

Speaking of PAX, I am going to it again this year. Should be an algebraic time! If I finish off XBLIG Companion port in time, I am going to kick into gears for the MBMBaM game. I would like to have a simple level created with the main characters main abilities done to show off to some people at PAX.

Another week goes by, so that means another UberMinutes is here! The main project that has occupied my time the most this week has been the iOS port of XBLIG Companion. I should be ready to do some testing with the help of others starting next week. There is a few things I need to read up on to make it as close to possible as the WP7 version, such as Push Notifications. I may release it for iPhone only at first, and come up with an iPad layout after I finish everything in the iPhone version. It will be an update to the release, and not a new “HD” version of the app.

Here are some screen shots of the app so far:

If you would like to be a tester for me, please drop me an email to cyoung AT eat-studios D0T com, or thru twitter @EatStudios or @ElementCy.  As for the other 2 projects, they will get more time once XBLIG companion stuff is done. I am hoping to get more done with the MBMBaM project before PAX Prime comes.

And so another UberMinutes is here… I have made some progress with Xeoctsy Infinitum this week, but nothing to really show in terms of an updated alpha build. The main thing I have been working on is making a better weapon/projectile system. I think I am just about wrapped up with the initial workings of it, and have been playing around with how the player shoots.

As well as working on a new weapon/projectile system, I have been sketching up some UI layouts. With the layouts, I have been also working out a workflow on how the game plays, and how the player traverses the menu system. I don’t have my scanner up and working, so I just snapped a pic of what I have so far. =D

I have also made some progress with the iOS version of XBLIG Companion. I should have some screens available next week’s UberMinutes. As for the MBMBaM project, I don’t have any updates for it this week.

The UberMinutes: Episode 002

Welcome to another UberMinutes. It is a wonderful Friday the 13th, so far… On the coding front, not much was accomplished this week. Did some fleshing out of the design document for the MBMBaM game, and tweaked the gameplay idea for Xeoctsy Infinitum. A great looking asset package for Unity3D just came out this week, and I plan on playing around with it this weekend, or later next week. The package is called Uni2D and it looks pretty slick! Here is a vid showing off what it can do: Uni2D presentation.

So, since I didn’t code much this week, what took up my time you say? Well, I started watching a series on HBO:Go, and kind of got caught up in it. I’ve seen a few episodes when they actually aired, but now I am going thru the whole series. The series is “Bored to Death”, and I am enjoying it. I just have the last season left, so should be finished this weekend for sure. =D

Besides using my time to watch the TV, I have been playing around with a mix of Bloody Tears from Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. It is coming along quite nicely, but has quite a bit more work until I am happy to release it to my Sound Cloud account.

The UberMinutes: Episode 001

Trying something new here. I am going to post things I am working on, thoughts, links, etc on a weekly basis starting this week. To keep things consistant, I am going to be posting this on Fridays, not on a specific time, but sometime on  said Friday none the less. Also, I am going to starting to be more transparent with what I am working on. Going to try to release images, alpha builds, vids, etc early on. Calling it “Weekly Dev Journal” or something boring like that will not cut it. I’m thinking along the lines of calling it “The UberMinutes…” It has a nice ring to it. So on that note, let’s begin the first UberMinutes…

Currently I am splitting my development time into 3 projects.

  • Project 1: I am still trying to hammer down a release for XBLIG Companion for the iOS devices. This has been a slower process that I had planned, and has been neglected more than it should have been. Hopefully I can get something hammered out before XBLIG is no longer existent.
  • Project 2: A little 2D game I am calling Xeoctsy Infinitum. It is a 2D space shooter, themed around a mix of Bullet Hell and Asteroids. It is being created using Unity3D. As of right now in the development process I have a simple asteroid field generated and the user can fly around and destroy the asteroids. I am hoping to release it as a twin stick shooter for iOS and Android devices, and possibly a slimmed version for the web. If you want to try the current (as of July 6th, 2012) early alpha build, you can play it here.
  • Project 3: Another 2D game using Unity3D, based on MBMBaM podcast. It will be a platformer with a Lost Vikings feel (hopefully).  This game is in the really early alpha, with a small prototype in the works. This is the bigger of the 3 projects, and will be more of a long term goal to work on. If you want to try the current (as of July 6th, 2012) early alpha build, you can play it here.

With the other use of my time, I finally got to the end of Dragon’s Dogma this last weekend. I thought it was a pretty good game, even though it does have some quirks. I am glad that CAPCOM is following it up with some more games, hopefully fleshing out more of the world, and the IP in general. Haven’t played too much more of Diablo 3, not really seeing the fun in farming, and trying to farm a slim chance of getting a good item for my current class. The new Penny Arcade 3 game has my eye for this weekend. Going to try to hammer through it, and put it in my “done” pile.

If you would like to have more updates than just the once a week UberMinutes, follow @ElementCy on twitter. I usually tweet things that I am doing, or thoughts on my mind, or just complete nonsense… So that is the first UberMinutes, until next time…
